Wentz-Griswold Agriculture Undergraduate Research Scholars

1. Recipients shall be participating in approved opportunities focused on academic and/or work-related rigorous learning outcomes such as those in the Pathways to Innovation and Leadership program or future similar program as determined by the administering authority.
2. Recipients shall be pursuing a major directly tied to agriculture, farming, or agricultural technology. Approved majors include agricultural business, agricultural communication, agricultural engineering, agricultural and life sciences education, agriculture and rural policy, agricultural studies, agronomy, animal science, agricultural systems technology, dairy science, digital and precision agriculture, forestry, global resource systems, and horticulture.
3. Preference shall be given to students with verified financial need, as documented by the University Office of Student Financial Aid.
This award shall be made available to full-time students of undergraduate class standing.

  1. Wentz-Griswold Agriculture Undergraduate Research Scholars Award, Spring, 2025

    Thanks to the generosity of Michele Griswold, the *Pathways to Innovation and Leadership Program* in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences is pleased to announce the Wentz-Griswold Agriculture Undergraduate Research Scholars Award.

    This award is intended to support undergraduate students with financial need engage in undergraduate research and participate in the CALS Pathways to Innovation and Leadership program, which emphasizes hands-on, transformative experiences, including undergraduate research, that prepare students for leadership in agriculture and related industries.

    This award honors the legacy of the late Emanuel Edward Wentz, an Iowa farm landowner and elevator manager, and celebrates the continued commitment of his granddaughter, Michele Griswold and her husband, Gary, to agricultural education and opportunity.

    Recipient Criteria:
    1. Undergraduate status enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
    2. Enrolled in one of the following majors: agricultural business, agricultural communication, agricultural engineering, agriculture and life sciences education, agriculture and rural policy, agricultural studies, agronomy, animal science, agricultural systems technology, dairy since, digital and precision agriculture, forestry, global resource systems, and horticulture.
    3. Preference given to students with verified financial need, as documented by the University Office of Student Financial Aid

    If awarded, Wentz-Griswold Agriculture Undergraduate Research Scholars will be expected to:
    1. Complete the Pathways Planner.
    2. Complete the requirements to earn a Research Impact micro-credential and digital. badge.
    3. Present their undergraduate research at Pathway I+L Showcase in the Student Innovation Center in May.
    4. Participate in a seminar on Intellectual Property conducted by a representative of OIC (OIPTT) during the semester. This seminar will be held in conjunction with Wentz-Griswold undergraduate scholars in the College of Engineering.

    Term of Award:All awrds shall be for one semester and may be renewed for tow additional semesters.

    Number of Awards:
    Award Amount: $2,400 per semester, based on $16/hr. x 10 hours per week x 15 weeks.
