This scholarship is named for beloved economics professor and renowned expert on agricultural law and taxation Dr. Neil Harl. In honor of Dr. Neil E. Harl’s tremendous legacy at Iowa State University, the Harl family has established the Dr. Neil E. Harl Opportunity Scholarship to create opportunities for students who show academic potential who may otherwise be unable to attend Iowa State University.

• Recipients shall be enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
• Recipients shall have verified financial need, as documented by the University Office of Student Financial Aid.
• Recipients shall demonstrate academic potential as determined by the administering authority* Preference shall be given to Iowa residents, as permitted by Federal and State law, and University policy.
• This award shall be made available to students of undergraduate class standing.

Administration: The Harl family would like the amount of the scholarships to be as near to full in-state tuition, room and board as possible based on the available funding. The initial recipient shall be an incoming freshman student and that student will continue receiving the award through their senior year. Additional incoming freshman awards shall be added in subsequent years if distributions will support awards at this level.
