Carol and Jon Lyon Opportunity Scholarship

1. Recipients shall be first-generation college students.
2. Recipients shall have a high level of verified financial need, as documented by the University Office of Student Financial Aid.
3. Recipients shall have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale.
4. Recipients shall be United States citizens or permanent residents, as permitted by Federal and State law and University policy.
5. Preference shall be given to students who have participated in mentoring programs for first-generation college students offered by Iowa State University as determined by the administering authority. Examples of programs include the Hixson Opportunity Awards program, TRIO Student Support Services, or programming offered through the First Scholars Office.
This award shall be made available to students of any class standing.
