Louis M. Thompson Endowment for Agronomy

Undergraduate scholarships: Recipients shall have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Recipients shall demonstrate financial need. Recipients shall have demonstrated potential for leadership. Recipients shall have sophomore, junior, or senior class standing. First preference shall be given to individuals enrolled in the science option and crops area, but student in other areas of study also qualify; second preference shall be given to active members of a professional agronomic organization. The scholarship may be renewed for an additional two (2) years so long as recipients continue to meet the above stated criteria. The award shall be the equivalent of resident undergraduate tuition and fees for the year in which the award is made. At least 35% of the available funds each year must be used to support the undergraduate scholarships.

Graduate Fellowships: Recipients shall be accepted or enrolled in a graduate major in Agronomy. Recipients shall have an undergraduate minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Recipients shall have completed a fellowship application that includes a letter of recommendation from their major professor or proposed major professor for a teaching assistantship. First preference will be given to past recipients of the Louis M. Thompson Endowment for Agronomy undergraduate scholarship. Second preference will be given to individuals who are capable of and willing to teach in agronomy courses where demand for additional teaching assistants exists. Third preference will be given to candidates in the Ph.D. program. The fellowship may be renewed for an additional three (3) years so long as recipients continue to meet the above stated criteria. The award shall be the equivalent of the Agronomy Department’s premium assistantship for the year in which the award is made.
