A. Undergraduate scholarships 1. Criteria: a. Recipients shall be majoring in animal science. b. Recipients shall have a demonstrated minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale c. Recipients shall be United States citizens. d. Recipients shall be completed sixty (60) credit hours of course work. e. Recipients shall be a demonstrated interest in pursuing advanced degrees in swine production and/or swine genetics as determined by the administering authority. f. Preference shall be given to candidates who demonstrate outstanding leadership skills through extracurricular activities involving swine as determined by the administering authority. 2. Term: All scholarships awarded hereunder shall be for one year but may be renewed at the discretion of the awarding authority so long as the recipient continues to meet the above stated criteria. 3. Eligibility: These scholarships shall be made available to students who have completed sixty (60) credit hours of course work. 4. B. Graduate Scholarships: 1. Criteria: a. Recipients shall be pursuing an advanced degree in animal breeding and genetics or animal science with an emphasis in swine genetics. b. Recipients shall be a demonstrated minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. c. Recipients shall be United States citizens. d. Recipients shall have a demonstrated interest in pursuing advanced degrees in swine production and/or swine genetics as determined by the administering authority. e. Preference shall be given to candidates who demonstrate outstanding leadership skills through extracurricular activities involving swine as determined by the administering authority 2. Eligibility: These scholarships shall be made available to students with graduate class standing. C. Academic Enhancement support for students studying in swine production and/or swine genetics. Selected students may receive awards to support research activities, provide funds to publish research results and travel to professional meetings D. Lectureships and/or Symposiums such as: 1. An international swine symposium. This important program will bring together pork industry leaders, researchers and students to discover and discuss the major worldwide initiatives and issues in porcine livestock productions. 2. A lectureship in swine genetics. A visiting lecturer will spend at least three (3) days a Iowa State visiting with students, faculty and industry representatives presenting a lecture on swine genetics. National and international experts will be invited to participate in this lectureship.
