Lyle E. and Anna M. Lightfoot Internships in Architecture Endowment

The Lyle E. and Anna M. Lightfoot Internships in Architecture Endowment will provide stipends for students who have successfully completed the third or fourth year of the undergraduate program in architecture. The purpose of the stipend will be to provide support for each of the students, to be known as Lightfood Scholars, during an internship within an architectural practice in the summer between the third and fourth year or fourth and fifth year of study.

The agreement states that the award is open to students who have successfully completed the sophomore year of the undergraduate program in architecture. The College of Design has changed academic requirements, now requiring that all incoming freshman students take one year of core Design curriculum, prior to being accepted in the professional Architecutre program. Students who have completed the sophomore year have had only one year of study focusing in architecture, which is not sufficient education in the architecture field to have a meaningful and successful internship.

The Lightfoot Scholars will compete for positions through a portfolio review, academic performance and an essay detailing expectations for the internship. A report will be required from the scholar and associated firm in the fall following the completion of the internship. The Department of Architecture and the College of Design will administer the internship program.

The agreement states that the Lightfoot Scholars will comprise between one quarter and one half of any given sophomore class. The specific number of students receiving the internships will be determined by the Chair of the Department of Architecture, based on the available funding and the number of applicants.
